Balance Bikes!

Christmas is now only 23 sleeps away! What a great gift a first bicycle makes and what a great way to introduce your child to cycling, by getting them started on a balance bike... here are a few ideas for the littlest ones in the family:

For a great value- for- money, first bicycle, the 12inch Vitus Smoothy BalanceBike
is suitable for 2-3 year olds with an inside leg measurement of around 33-44cm and has good reviews, currently £89.99 at Wiggle

The seat has been designed with a padded scoop saddle to ensure your child is sat in the correct position and the seat post and handlebars are adjustable for as your child grows.

What I like best about the Vitus:
  • the integrated footrests for that 'game-changing moment' when your child has learnt  to balance and learns how to glide on the bike!
  • there is a very useful carry handle for us parents (when they've had enough trying for the day)
  • the bike is light at 3.2kg, making it easy for kids to handle
Although the FROG brand is more pricey, it has a very good reputation and has a higher re-sale value...

The 14 inch FROG Tadpole Plus Kids Balance Bike
is for kids around the age of 3-4 years with an average inside leg measurement of around 38cm, it weighs 4.18kg and is available for £200 at Leisure Lakes Bikes

What I like best about the Frog:
  • The handlebar has a steering lock to avoid over steering and unnecessary falls during the early days of learning to balance
  • This bike has breaks, so you spend less on replacing their sole-less shoes!
  • quick release seat bar, so no tools needed for height adjustment as they grow
And finally...
The Commencal Ramones 12 Push Bike 2021
I have to say, this little balance bike is looking good! it weights 4.5kg and is suitable for kids with an inside leg measurement of between 41-46cm, selling for £199 at Chain Reaction Cycles

What I like:
  • the foot rests are spacious for growing feet
  • this bike is disk brake ready so you can mount a rear brake once your kid has learnt to balance
  • these tyres are more suited to trails/off-road riding, which is where we like to be most!

What a perfect time of year to take up cycling and get the family started too!

Not only are we having some fantastic sunny, dry Autumn days- according to ‘project Britain’ the driest months in England are between October and January - HOORAY - Yes please..  but also… the Black Friday deals are on EVERYWHERE this week and with Christmas around the corner, it's a great time of year to get that new bike you've been dreaming of or upgrade your cycling gear to help get you motivated to get back on the saddle and what a fantastic gift that 1st bicycle makes for the 'little-uns' in your life...

Over the next couple of days I will be on the lookout for some great finds and be sharing ideas with you, I hope you find it useful!
To begin with, I thought I would share a few of my own favourite finds:
(Please note, the prices stated are correct at the time of posting this)

I am not usually one for pink, but this pretty dhb Flashlight Womens Spectrum Jacket serves a good purpose to stop the icy wind piercing through your kit while you ride but still has ventilation to help keep you from overheating: £75 ! Down from £110!

I love the detail on this thermal Alé Women's Prime Sunset Ltd Edt LS Jersey in black with the splash of pink, keeping it classic but stylish and most importantly warm and it has a zippered pocket to keep your phone and valuables safe so you can ride with peace of mind! Currently on special at £60 (usually £100!)

Its important to keep those toes nice and warm, especially during longer outrides, the fact that these dhb Aeron Women's Merino Socks are made with 65% Merino Wool ensures your feet will stay toasty warm and they have great reviews…at £9.75 they make a great stocking filler too!

I hope you enjoyed reading my 'New Years Revolutions' article, coming up in my next blog I will chat a bit about Balance Bikes, thanks for reading! See you then!
